Notes from the Director
Danni Ashton
For directors, A Streetcar Named Desire is certainly a play many would love to stage, as an accomplishment in their career.  The bold poetic language, controversial issues and debatable themes that encompass the script still ring true with audiences today.

What I love about the play is Williams' ability to utilise every medium to create realism.  His descriptive stage directions are, in themselves, a masterpiece; every ounce of dialogue resonates; music, sound lighting and costumes are all used and placed specifically to create masterful imagery.

Although this has been the most complex play I've directed to date, it has been the most enjoyable.  The cast and crew are extremely talented and dedicated to their craft - each and every one of them has travelled the journey with such passion and commitment.  It has mad ethis experience one that I'm sure people will remember for many years to come.

Sit back and enjoy this feast for all senses, a celebration of the Old Mill Theatre's diamond anniversary, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of A Streetcar Named Desire's first West End production.
